The studio, a division of Miramax, called Dimension, is run by Bob and Harvey Weinstein, who were executive producers of the fabulous films of The Lord of the Rings.
The producer, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, was head of worldwide production at Warner Bros. for several years, where he led the charge to make The Matrix, among other movies. As an experienced producer, he's world class.
The scriptwriter, Simon Kinberg, is currently doing Argonauts at DreamWorks, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith at Fox/Regency. Simon has earned my highest respect as a crafter of powerful, compelling stories. And he really started this whole process when he discovered The Lost Years of Merlin in a bookstore in L.A. a while ago.
You, my readers out there. NONE of this would be happening without the tremendous support and devotion to young Merlin that you have shown. If a movie does happen—then it's thanks, most of all, to you.
More info as soon as I can dig it up!
MOVIE GOERS-- It's going to take some time, but a feature film of THE LOST YEARS OF MERLIN is now underway. A terrific group of people is working very hard to make a film about the half-drowned boy who washed ashore ... and later became the greatest wizard of all times. (Take that, Harry!)
The studio, a division of Miramax, is run by Bob and Harvey Weinstein, who were the executive producers of the fabulous films of THE LORD OF THE RINGS. The producer is also world class, as is the scriptwriter, who started this whole process when he discovered THE LOST YEARS OF MERLIN in a bookstore in L.A. I'll keep you posted as all this develops. And, of course, this being Hollywood, it could take forever, or maybe not even happen. But I have very high hopes that this team is going to succeed. Their goal, like mine, is to make a film that is truly worthy of Merlin. Nothing less.

"Mars is bright tonight..." so said a famous Harry Potter centuar. Due to the alignment of Mar and Earth on their orbits, Mars moving into position to be the closest it has ever been to Earth in 6000 years. So on August 27 get out your telescopes and hunt down the red planet. Its thing in the sky that looks like a really bright star, but has a reddish tint.
Happy star gazing :D
Oops.. I had been wondering why no one ever used the message board... turns out I accidently had a feature set that made it so it couldn't be read... *cough* it works now..hehe.
The T.A. Barron News Letter was sent out today, here is what it said:
Dear Friend:
Springtime is here, and our Colorado farm is bursting with fresh aromas, new blossoms, and the liquid songs of meadowlarks. All this revives the body...and maybe even the spirit, in these difficult and dangerous times.
Things are blooming, too, on my website. Here are some highlights:
KIDS-- Check out the new Adventures of Kate challenge on my website. Also, you can now hear audio clips of some of your favorite passages!
TEACHERS AND LIBRARIANS-- New on my website for is a Bibliography of Heroes-- Ancient, Modern, and Mythic, that I compiled with many wonderful suggestions from my helpful friends in education. With all the bad news we hear daily, it is more important than ever to honor and celebrate the people (especially young people) who are making a positive difference in the world. If you know a young hero between the ages of 8 and 18 who has shown extraordinary leadership in making our world better, please visit the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes website, www.barronprize.org, and nominate him or her.
PARENTS-- Chinaberry Book Service has put together some great suggestions and books to help your family in these unsettled times. Just visit Chinaberry's website, www.chinaberry.com, to check it out.
WHAT'S NEXT? Thanks to all of you have been asking for news about my next books! I'm delighted to tell you that there will be TWO new books coming out in 2004-- the start of a brand new trilogy set in AVALON, and a picture book about a historic climb by a brave young girl.
The AVALON trilogy, to be published by Philomel Books, will be a whole new world of characters, places, and ideas...plus a return of some of your favorite characters from THE LOST YEARS OF MERLIN. The first book will be published in the fall of 2004. And I'm working hard to meet that schedule. (By the way, there has been interest from several sources in making THE LOST YEARS OF MERLIN into a movie. Nothing is definite, but I am glad to say some terrific people are working on it. As soon as I have more details, I'll let you know.)
HIGH AS A HAWK, my new picture book, will be illustrated by the masterful, award-winning artist, Ted Lewin. It will be published by Philomel Books and will be available in bookstores in June, 2004. This book tells the true story of a brave young girl and a famous mountain guide who scaled Long's Peak in Colorado a century ago. As they climbed the peak, they also climbed their own personal mountains...and each one gave surprising strength to the other. Together, after several surprises, they reached the summit.
Best wishes, and enjoy the summer!
T. A. Barron
